Celtic Concert at Weymouth

  • Weymouth Center 555 E Connecticut Avenue Southern Pines, NC (map)

With a name like Infantino, why is he playing Irish music? The answer is Danny is one-quarter Irish, and years ago he played with an Irish group called the Blackwater Boys. The group played mostly in New York, but did venues in Worchester Mass., Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., as well.

Later in his career Danny performed as a solo singer/ guitarist in some of the better pubs in Bermuda (The Hog Penny Pub in Hamilton, and the King Henry VIII pub in Southampton). Danny developed a fondness for this vibrant music. Today, along with violinist Seren Lyerly, he continues to play and sing the Irish songs.

The Celtic Concert at Weymouth will consist of some traditional and some original instrumentals, including lively fiddle tunes and plaintive airs. Following that, they'll be singing and playing some Irish ballads and lively - often funny - sing-a-longs. Old favorites such as Cockles and Mussels, Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ra, and others will be included.

Many of the songs and instrumentals are on their new CD of Celtic music, Blooming Heather, which will be released the first week of March. The CD will be for sale at the concert and also available at The Fresh Market.

Joining the duo will be Larry Allen on mandolin and guitar, and Abigail Dowd on guitar.

Beer and wine will be available for adults.

The concert will begin at 7:00pm. Advance tickets are available at Weymouth. Call Hope Price, at 692-6261.
